High pH (7.5 or higher) can cause cloudy water, scale, and itchy skin, and it makes your sanitizer work less well. Here's how to bring it back into range, based on our Arctic Spas maintenance instructions.
1. Confirm with a test strip
Before adding anything, dip a test strip such as our LaMotte Insta 3-Way Test Strips and check the pH. If you have a Spa Boy, also check the app on your phone. The strip and the app should be close, but they don't have to match exactly.
2. Add Adjust Down based on your reading
Use Arctic Pure Adjust Down (also available in a 7 lb size):
| pH reading | Spas | Swim spas / All Weather Pools |
|---|---|---|
| 7.5 (yellow high in the Spa Boy app) | 1/2 cap | 1-1/2 caps |
| 7.8 or higher (red high in the Spa Boy app) | 1 cap | 3 caps |
3. Let it circulate, then retest
Run the jets so the Adjust Down mixes in, then recheck the next day with a strip (and check the app if you have a Spa Boy). If the pH is still high, repeat step 2. Check and adjust your pH weekly to keep it in range.
Strip reads normal, but the Spa Boy app still says high?
If your test strip shows normal pH but the app keeps reading high, the Spa Boy pH probe may need calibrating or replacing. Don't keep adding Adjust Down, or the pH will drop too low. Give us a call at 801-483-1001 and we'll walk you through it.
